Film Scores & Sound Engineering

Here's the work I've done as a composer, sound engineer, and more. My first official project was on a short film called "Midnight Noon". Filmed on an iPhone, and a crew of a handful of people, we decided to submit this film to Film Fest Knox in Knoxville, Tennessee, and received an invitation. Amongst hundreds of submissions, only 20 short films were accepted, and we're still so thankful we got selected - from creating the film, to attending the festival, it was an amazing experience.

Now, with some of the same crew, and many more talented new faces, I've finished a new production called "What Rania Sees". This film is being considered by over 20 festivals in California, Tennessee, and some other states as well. Just like Midnight Noon, I composed the score for this film, as well as completing sound engineering and mastering of the final audio mix.
From Midnight and Noon, you can take a look at the Sun Feels Nice sequence. This is a pivotal moment in the film, where a little girl is trying to figure out how to convey what the sun feels like to a being that has never felt it. Composing this piece took multiple iterations - I needed to blend a Miyazaki style of soft jazz melodic piano with a sense of childlike curiosity and revelation as our title character takes in all of the sights and sounds, all under the guise of the title character's deep rooted uncertainty about life.

You can also check out the importance of setting the scene by watching the opening 30 seconds of the short film "What Rania Sees". I had to do a multitude of important things with the composition here to capture the key aspects of our title character and her struggles with herself and her desire to pursue her dream. Our key instrument, the Loonsong, is the perfect unique blend of haunting and beautiful - through this, we are able to establish a motif and explore it through strings, ambient sounds, and more as the film progresses.

I use a blend of powerful tools and pride myself on leveraging free and community driven options. I create and mix in a combination of Reaper and Fairlight in DaVinci Resolve, and compose with virtual libraries like Spirtife LABS and Analog Lab, as well as real instruments of course (guitar, bass, piano, drums, and more).
